Weblogs: Church Marketing Quotes

Church Marketing Sucks: Church Marketing Quotes: "Mac Richard of Lake Hills Church in Austin, Texas: 'The world calls it marketing. The Bible calls it evangelism.'"

(Those who are not techies or Macintosh aficionados may not know that Steve Jobs at Apple Computer launched the first marketing effort officially called "evangelism," and Guy Kawasaki as Apple's first Software Evangelist has written a number of books about what we might now call "purpose-driven marketing.")

Hey, thanks for linking to Church Marketing Sucks. Apple using the word evangelist sounds familiar--pretty interesting stuff. The two roles (evangelist and marketer) are pretty similiar, at least when done well. (though I suppose bad marketing and bad evangelism share a few similarities as well)

To prepare for one of his books (Selling the Dream, I believe), Kawasaki even attended a Billy Graham conference on evangelism, and writes about how it relates to effective (personal, collaborative) marketing.
