Musings: Talking to yourself

While most people worry about a person who mutters to himself, intelligent people do talk to themselves -- and for good reason. Perhaps they are alone and seek a benefit from verbalizing their thought process; perhaps they are the most interesting conversationalist in the room! In any case, like social communication, what's significant isn't whether it occurs but the mental and emotional dexterity of its participants and what they say. So while there's nothing to nattering, there's usually something substantive about arguing with yourself. Just make sure you win!
