Good Lord, people, upgrade your mail servers! Your received-disc notifications have been arriving 24 hours later -- and, on average, 18 hours after your shipped-disc notifications. Netflix's arrive promptly!

I think Netflix might cheat a bit. I one time received my e-mail notification of shipment in the afternoon AFTER the DVD had arrived ... making me wonder if Netflix might not wait a bit before sending out the notifications to create the illusion of quicker shipment.
I've also noticed that it seems to take a DVD about 1-2 days to get to me from Netflix, but about 2-3 days to get to them from me. Assuming that mail comes and goes from my box at the same speed, I'm guessing Netflix is fudging their response time by delaying notifying me of receipt/shipment.
I think occasional problems have more to do with the crush of traffic in electronic and ground mail venues esp. around the holidays. But if Netflix is consistently sending me notification emails promptly (to Hotmail) while Blockbuster is consistently a day late (using the same address), it is probably due to a bogdown in outgoing email at Blockbuster.
This last week, following a four-day weekend, was probably quite an avalanche for Netflix. I didn't mail several DVDs for a Saturday pickup so they were picked up Monday at 7:30 am. Even so, Netflix didn't process my disks until Wed and didn't mail out one disc until Fri.
