Email: Tridentine Mass [MG]

Yeah, funny thing about the Tridentine Mass... The Pope has greatly restricted it and excommunicated those who insist on it... Most of the top links on Google are written by pro-Tridentine groups but here is a legitimate if unofficial overview. Latinmass.org lists no Latin masses available in St. Louis but does list one available in Houston (pop. 4.8 million) and one in the Twin Cities (pop. 2 million). It sure is weird when you have people who claim that the most conservative denomination is far from conservative enough, and want to roll things back to the 1500s...

1. You must not understand Catholicism very well. If you read what present day popes are saying and look back just fifty years, you'd notice a major difference. By historical Catholic standards, John Paul II was a raving modernist.

2. All of that ideological and theological stuff aside, the Tridentine Mass is far, far more beautiful than any religious service currently offered. So the traditional Mass is justifiable on that basis alone.

3. The term "denomination" should be reserved for sects that sprang up during and after the protestant revolts of the 16th century, not for historic churches, like the Church of Rome, Church of Greece, or the Church of Antioch.

Thanks, but I have a theology degree from a major Catholic university and I know Latin, Greek and Hebrew. I updated my research and kept it in mind for the references I provided. Your response sounds typically Tridentine, where people speak as if the Pope is wrong and they are right.

1. Saying that my response sounds "typically" Tridentine means absolutely nothing. Just for the record, your response sounds "typical" of someone trained in a modernist pseudo-Catholic University run by heterodox Jesuits.

2. Which pope am I saying is wrong? I think Pius IX, Pius X, and Pius XII were 100% correct in fighting modernism. Paul VI, of execrable memory, however, was wrong for instituting the New Mass. So, yes, I must side w/eternal Rome over present day modernist Rome.

Now you're showing your true colors even more viciously. You continue to think you're better than the rest of the Catholic Church, picking and choosing your popes to suit your medivalist elitism. You fail to read the sources I gave in my original post, or else you believe that by ignoring my points and merely asserting yours, you can win an argument? Even freshman Philosophy 101 taught me better than that! To win an argument, you must earn it, not merely pout and posture. There are statements that only a Tridentine Catholic would utter; and you are digging yourself deep. (We can all smell it.) Finally, you seem oblivious to one of thew newest litmus tests for asininity, which is to insult the weblog owner on his own blog. What planet are you from anyway? You don't belong to ours (God's).
