NPR: 'Taxi to the Dark Side' Examines Torture by U.S.:

"Taxi to the Dark Side is as shocking and disturbing as its title. Its subject matter is torture as a weapon of choice in the war against terror. There are pictures and videos from Abu Ghraib. But most distressing is how readily the U.S. government turned to torture."

(Vice President Cheney says it himself in this audio report: His job is to work in the dark side, in the shadows, to do the things he doesl.)

Enron-driven reforms are unraveling - Houston Chronicle:

"As I wrote a few months ago, many of the tricks and off-balance-sheet vehicles employed by banks in the mortgage mess are straight from the Enron playbook."

(Rather than consigning Enron's lessons to history as has been done, we'll never eradicate the sins of Enron until the Bush/Cheney administration is history.)

Musings: Talking to yourself

While most people worry about a person who mutters to himself, intelligent people do talk to themselves -- and for good reason. Perhaps they are alone and seek a benefit from verbalizing their thought process; perhaps they are the most interesting conversationalist in the room! In any case, like social communication, what's significant isn't whether it occurs but the mental and emotional dexterity of its participants and what they say. So while there's nothing to nattering, there's usually something substantive about arguing with yourself. Just make sure you win!
